Palomino Island is part of a continuous reforestation project, where we plant trees and a variety of plants, endemic and suitable for the area like native oak, uvilla, seagrapes, beach pines, bauhinia, among others. These efforts aim to mitigate land erosion, effects of climate change, increase greener & natural shade areas, and create habitats for different wildlife, contributing to the island's biodiversity.

  • We currently recycle cardboard, plastic, aluminum, and glass.
  • The glass is processed in a plant to create building blocks used in construction.
  • Used light bulbs/ballasts and all electronic equipment are sent to be recycled.
  • All vegetable oils from our kitchens are also sent to a recycling company; which in turn repurposes this for items such as soap and biodiesel.
  • Oil from our transportation (boats, landscaping equipment from our motor pool shop) is all sent out to recycling companies
  • Located next to our Tennis Courts, we are gardening fruits and herbs to use in the Spa and our kitchens. We continue to expand our selection of items cultivated there.
  • Leftover food and scraps from our kitchens are also provided to local pig farms for feed
  • Rain Water is collected in manholes throughout the property and routed to our Waste Water Treatment plant; which in turn is used for irrigation.
  • Irrigation of the Golf Course comes from treated water from our Waste Water Treatment facility (we are permitted to produce 500,000 gallons per day)
  • Solar Panels are installed on the rooftop of the Vista Guestrooms Building. The panels are to produce energy for that building. We are working on the permitting process.

Our Engineering Team has installed several Hydration Stations throughout the resort and will continue to do so. This is part of Engineering Greens Initiatives and a big educational component for our employees and guests. This is an ongoing project which means we will continue installing additional fountains and conservation signs.

You will find these by the main pool, the Coquí Water Park, and the fitness center inside the Spa.
